Enfleurage? That's the process in making perfume in which odorless fats or oils absorb the fragrance of fresh flowers, right?
Well, yes but ....
Just before the turn of the Millennium, I was searching online for information about a strangely compelling BBC television show that I'd happened to see broadcast on a downstate New York PBS Station. While I did manage to find out something about Blake's 7, I also stumbled upon something new. Something that looked like original stories written about the Blake's 7 characters and set in the Blake's 7 universe...
Fan fiction?
Yes, fan fiction. See Henry Jenkins and his seminal work, Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture or take the 21st century shortcut: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_fiction
After consuming as much Blake's 7 fan fiction as I could find online and amassing a collection of B7 print zines, I started actually writing some stories of my own under the pen name Morrigan. The fiction was 'enthusiastic beginner' at first, but with the help of the Blakes 7 fanfic community - an international group found mostly in those ancient days of dial-up on AOL Listservs - I started writing stories that weren't absolute shite.
I began uncovering other fandoms, scattered about the Internet, and then www.fanfiction.net came into existence. I've been a member of that site since 2002, but when I joined it, Morrigan -- the Irish goddess of war, life (sex) and death -- was far too popular a name to use on fanfiction.net. I had to choose a new pen name.
What to chose, what to chose...
Archipelago Botanicals at that time carried a lovely scented candle called Enfleurage...
Truly, it was a far less considered choice than Morrigan (still my personal favorite) but based entirely on lazy convenience - I needed a new pen name, the candle was burning, it smelled nice -- I became Enfleurage.
I write fanfic for myself, because the actual writing of it makes me happy and feeds a creative need for me. I also tend to write fanfic when I've read all the stories I can find in a fandom and am craving more, or can't find the type of stories I'd like to read.
My stories are scattered hither and yon, on www.fanfiction.net, on AO3, and on the Mark VII Fanfiction Realm site. As www.fanfiction.net is again going through its once a decade enforcement of Site Guidelines, I decided to follow the lead of some other writers and gather my stories in one common place.
Oh, and yes I dabble a bit in photography and kayaking, thus the photo at the top of the screen is mine too.
